This September, SustAI postgraduate researchers will demonstrate their work at the British Science Festival, as the University of Southampton hosts one of the oldest and most respected public science events in the country. It is the first time the Festival has come to Southampton in more than 30 years.
The Festival returns to Southampton for the first time in over 30 years
Working alongside MINDS, the researchers will bring four projects to the public, each designed to make advanced AI research approachable for visitors of every age. They include Talking Itchen, the AI-powered model river that answers questions about its own health and water quality, a humanoid robot that holds spoken conversations, a gesture-controlled DJ system, and an interactive model of a neural network.
The demonstrations run throughout the day on Saturday 19th September at the Sir James Matthews Building in Southampton. More than 10,000 people are expected across the week, and the programme reflects the University's strengths in areas including AI, environmental sustainability, maritime research, photonics and health.
If you are planning to visit, come and find our researchers on the day. We would love to see you there.
